Why Should You Insist on a CFP® Professional?
Education
CFP® professionals spend years acquiring the background knowledge necessary to pass the CFP® exam. The exam tests their ability to apply financial planning knowledge to real-life situations. More than just investments, a CFP® professional must also demonstrate competency in risk management, insurance, retirement, income, estate, and tax planning, essential components for putting together a comprehensive financial plan.
Additionally, CFP® professionals are required to complete thirty hours of continuing education every two years, including two hours on ethics.
Experience
In addition to the educational requirement and ability to pass the CFP® exam, CFP® professionals must complete 6,000 hours of professional planning experience or 4,000 hours of apprenticeship experience before earning their designation. While anyone can use the "financial advisor" designation upon hire, when you see the CFP® designation, you know that your advisor has real world experience.
Ethical Commitment
CFP® professionals are required to hold themselves to high ethical and conduct standards. CFP® professionals are required to act as fiduciaries at all times when providing financial advice. They also undergo detailed background checks, ongoing disclosure reporting, and biannual ethics training.
